A very cool little map that really drives home just how many freaking people inhabit China’s provinces.

China – Fairly Populous
Privacy
“For if we are observed in all matters, we are constantly under threat of correction, judgment, criticism, even plagiarism of our own uniqueness. We become children, fettered under watchful eyes, constantly fearful that — either now or in the uncertain future — patterns we leave behind will be brought back to implicate us, by whatever authority has now become focused upon our once-private and innocent acts. We lose our individuality, because everything we do is observable and recordable.”
I know i’ve already linked to this, but everytime i read it i love it a little more.
Big Picture: Hurricane Ike
Big Picture gets better with every post, and the hurricane Ike coverage is no exception, incredible and frightening.
Relocation
The move to the new host (Servage.net) went fairly well – considering I could only find 5 or 10 minutes here and there to work on things. The site was running so slow on Network Solutions that I often lost patience before I’d even started to write a post (well, that’s my excuse) so hopefully the change of servers should liven things up a bit around here. Things seem pretty snappy so far – but then compared to Network Solutions a 56k modem and Win 95 PC would be an improvement.
There are still a few issues I need to sort out so you might see some changes here and there for a day or two, but nothing too drastic (hopefully)
Fun with FireEagle
The observant among you might have noticed a new map on the sidebar – I’ve been playing around with Yahoo’s FireEagle geolocation service and by tying it into BlogLoc and updating with SearchQuest (the only iPhone app I can find with the ability to update fire eagle) I can ge that nice little map you see before you.
(Please refrain from using said map to guide cruise missiles or local law enforcement to my current location)
